GSU Celebrates MLK Day with Free Campus Event

Although formal classes will not be in session on Monday, January 15, Governors State University will offer an opportunity to learn. Please join the GSU community for “A Day On, Not a Day Off,” a commemoration of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at 10 a.m. in Sherman Hall. The keynote speaker for this day of reflection, growth, and service will be Dr. Haki Madhubuti, founder and president of Third World Press.

Attendees are asked to bring new or gently used coats, scarves, gloves, and hats to donate to men, women, and children evacuees in Chicago who have been impacted by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. Students will help distribute the items to families shortly after the commemoration program.

Donations can also be made to Student Life from now until the day of the event. For more information, call 708.534.4551 or email diversity@govst.edu.

This program is cosponsored by the University Park MLK Committee, University Park Public Library District, and Monee Alliance of Churches.
