For Ashley Jack, pursuing a bachelor's degree was not a decision to be taken lightly, yet Governors State University (GovState) presented the ideal opportunity for her.

An alum of Prairie State College (PSC), Ashley chose to further her educational journey by pursuing a degree in Business Administration with a specialization in Human Resources Management. The journey may not have been easy, but Ashley found the strength to see it through.

With graduation in sight, Ashley took some time to share her GovState journey.

GovState Newsroom: What attracted you to Governors State University?

Ashley: As a proud alum of the Prairie State College, I took a few years off before deciding to pursue my bachelor's degree at Governors State. I saw it only fit to transfer into the sister college of PSC. The accessibility of online classes combined with the proximity of the campus made GovState an ideal choice for me.

GovState Newsroom: What clubs and/or activities were you involved with?

Ashley: I served as the Social Media Manager for the Black Student Union for one year, where I developed and implemented strategies to enhance online engagement and community outreach. Additionally, I gained valuable experience working as a student worker in the COB Dean's office for one year, where I supported various administrative tasks and contributed to the online presences for the College of Business.

GovState Newsroom: What song will always remind you of this time in your life?

Ashley: The song that will forever evoke memories of this time is Cleo Sol's "There Will Be No Crying." As I near the completion of my degree after a prolonged journey, graduation feels within reach. However, the path hasn't been easy, and life has presented its share of challenges along the way. Despite facing obstacles that nearly overwhelmed me, I've persevered and pushed through.

GovState Newsroom: What are your dreams for your degree?

Ashley: In the long term, my aspirations include working as a hiring recruiter for leading tech companies like Google or Amazon.

GovState Newsroom: What advice would you give to current and/or future GovState students?

Ashley: For future Govstate students, remember that college marks the start of an ongoing journey of learning and growth. Approach your studies with curiosity, welcome new challenges, and always strive to expand your knowledge and develop personally, both inside and outside the classroom.
