Mixing media and sports

Graduate Profile: Dominic DalPolo

Outside of class, Dominic DalPolo could often be found in the Governors State University (GovState) television studios or on a golf course competing for the university golf team.

Coming to GovState to pursue his interest in media, Dominic quickly found his place in the Media Studies program. Whether producing the university's live broadcasts for sports or the news show TWAG, Dominic was honing his camera and video editing skills.

He hopes to take what he's done on campus to the next level, producing content for professional sports. With graduation right around the corner, he's making the most of the rest of the semester.

GovState Newsroom: What attracted you to Governors State University?

Dominic: I came to GovState because I wanted to start studying media. I knew that I would get greater opportunities here than a larger university.

GovState Newsroom: What clubs and/or activities were you involved with?

Dominic: I have been on the men's golf team for three seasons and I am a student worker for DLMD - we produce the school's live broadcasts for sports and other events, as well as produce the campus's news show TWAG.

GovState Newsroom: What song will always remind you of this time in your life?

Dominic: A song that reminds me of the time I'm going through right now is called "Till I Get There" by Lupe Fiasco. It's about keeping your head up, no matter how hard life gets. It's about being yourself and working hard to get to where you want to be.

GovState Newsroom: What are your dreams for your degree?

Dominic: My dream with my degree is to create content for a professional sports team using my camera and video editing skills.

GovState Newsroom: What advice would you give to current and/or future GovState students?

Dominic: My advice to GovState students would be to be go-getters. Don't wait for anything to come to you, go get it. Do as much as you can while you're here.
