Greetings, Jaguars!

It is my pleasure to welcome you to Governors State University and the start of the 2026–27 academic year. Whether you are returning to campus or joining the GovState community for the first time, I am so glad you chose GovState.

I hope you’ll join us for Welcome Week activities during the first week of classes, which start Monday, August 31. Welcome Week is a great opportunity to explore clubs and organizations, learn more about Greek Life, Jaguar Connection (the club and organization student portal), meet members of the Student Senate and become familiar with campus resources, including the GovState Food Pantry.

Throughout the school year, I also encourage you to discover the many ways to get involved at GovState. Join a student club or organization, attend an athletic event, or participate in volunteerism and leadership opportunities. The connections you make and experiences you have outside the classroom can become some of the most rewarding parts of your GovState journey.

As we enter a new academic year, I look forward to seeing all that you will accomplish and being part of your Jaguar journey. Your experience starts now—get involved, make connections, create lasting memories, and make GovState yours! Stop by the Student Leadership Suite in A2100 to connect with our dedicated team, ask questions, or find support. We are here to help you make the most of your GovState experience.

Wishing you a successful and rewarding academic year.

With Jaguar Pride,
Konya Sledge, Ed.D.
