Students looking to strengthen their academic and professional networks can do just that at Governors State University’s (GovState) Master of Public Administration (MPA) Orientation, Career, Networking and Mentoring Event on September 10.

The semi-annual event kicks off at the start of the fall semester, inviting new and returning MPA students, faculty, mentors, and alumni to get together. From 6 – 9:30 p.m. in the Hall of Honors, there will be dinner and a program, providing students an opportunity to connect with alumni, as well as public and nonprofit sector professionals.

“This event promotes career development, professional networking, mentoring, and community engagement—core values in public service leadership,” said Dr. Natalia Ermasova, MPA Program Coordinator.

The night’s program includes:

  • Overview of the MPA program by Dr. Ermasova

  • Keynote address from State Representative William “Will” Davis, MPA

  • Guest speakers Dr. Lisa Merchant, former chair of GovState's Board of Trustees, and Debra Earl, MPA and MPA Advisory Board member

  • Career Trends Panel Discussion featuring MPA alumni and mentors

  • Mentoring and networking time

  • Closing remarks and a Q&A session

Throughout the program, attendees can learn more about careers for MPA students, Pi Alpha Alpha (honor society for public administration students), study abroad, and the mentorship program. Guests can also expect insights from alumni currently working in the Department of Homeland Security, the State Police, Cook County, and non-profit organizations, among others.
