GSU Athletics Honored with NAIA Scholar Awards

Seven athletic teams and 17 students-athletes from Governors State were recently bestowed academic honors from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) during the NAIA’s National Awards Day.

The following Jaguar squads received NAIA Scholar Team Awards for maintaining grade-point averages above 3.00: women's cross country (3.49), women's soccer (3.42), women's basketball (3.34), men's golf (3.17), women's volleyball (3.17), men's soccer (3.07) and women's golf (3.00).

In addition, 17 students student-athletes were recipients of NAIA-Daktronics Scholar-Athletes Awards. The Scholar-Athlete Award recognizes student-athletes who are juniors or above in academic standing and own a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher. They also must have attended two full years at their respective institution or a full year as a transfer.

The list includes graduate student and cross country runner Milica Maras who became the first GSU student-athlete to earn three Scholar-Athlete Awards, having previously been honored twice as a member of the volleyball team.
