Humans of GSU: Dunja Tatic

“Last year, I came to Governors State University (GSU) from Serbia as a freshman through a scholarship to play volleyball. I was always interested in playing college volleyball and was connected to Millie Maras, a student and a Graduate Assistant in the Office of International Services, by family friends. She was able to answer my questions and connect me with Coach Pete Gonzalez. I sent a video of me playing and he was interested and helped me with the process of coming to Governors State.

I was recently named to the All-Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference First Team, my second time receiving this honor. Last year when I received it, I didn’t know how big of a deal it was. Then I found out that only the top 14 players out of the conference receive this, so earning it twice, a first in GSU athletics’ history, is a big deal for me and Governors State. I feel very honored and proud.

I love volleyball for the passion of the game, how the momentum changes quickly and for the freedom of the court. I’m grateful for it too because it brought me here, to Governors State.”
