Affirmative Action Expert

Dr. David Golland is an Associate Professor of History, Coordinator of Humanities and President of the Faculty Senate at Governors State University. An expert on affirmative action, he joined the College of Arts and Sciences in 2011, the same year he published his first book.

Growing up in New York, Dr. Golland completed much of his higher education in his home state. He earned his Ph.D. in History from The Graduate Center, City University of New York. He held various teaching positions there before moving to the Chicago area to help build GSU’s history program.

In addition to teaching, Dr. Golland loves doing research which is evident in the 30-35 hours he spends each week just on his scholarship. He is a civil rights historian who enjoys reading about the African American experience. Some of his research interests include:

  • Race
  • Labor
  • Civil Rights
  • Politics
