Celebrate the start of the new school year at Convocation 2026

It’s time to kick off the 2026 school year at Governors State University (GovState)! Join fellow Jaguars in welcoming the Class of 2030 and returning students at Convocation 2026 on Thursday, September 10.

The annual event is a GovState tradition that marks the beginning of a new academic year and offers an opportunity for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and university leadership to come together to celebrate.

Before the ceremony, everyone can gather in the Hall of Governors from 12 – 12:45 p.m. for fun and games.

  • Campus resource tables

  • Music and photo opportunities

  • Meet new people and fellow Jaguars

The Convocation ceremony runs from 1 – 2 p.m. in the Center for Performing Arts where everyone in attendance can hear from President Joyce C. Ester, student leaders, the alumni keynote speaker, and University leadership as they welcome new and returning Jaguars.

Following the ceremony, from 2 - 3 p.m. on the Hall of Governors Patio, there will be an Ice Cream Social where everyone can get a cool treat while mingling with others.
