Bringing pride to the Windy City Thunderbolts baseball game fundraiser

This Pride Month, Governors State University (GovState) is going out to the ball game while raising money to support the Jackie McKethen Scholarship for LGBTQIA Students.

Organized by the University’s College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), there will be a special Pride Month baseball game fundraiser with the Windy City Thunderbolts on Tuesday, June 30 in support of the scholarship.

Created by Jackie McKethen, the scholarship was established to support GovState students who identify as LGBTQIA and/or are supportive of the community. McKethen, longtime supporter of GovState and local transgender activist, has personally contributed to the scholarship.

Recent scholarship recipients include Ruben Lopez, Gena Valentine, and Bria Hall. Each recipient has been awarded $500 for books and expenses.

This year’s fundraiser combines McKethen’s love for baseball and supporting students with money from each ticket purchased through GovState’s link going to the Jackie McKethen Scholarship; tickets are $9 each and $5 from each sale will go to the scholarship. Enjoy $2 hot dogs, popcorn, soda, bottled water, and select ice cream, plus FREE parking.
