Amid work, classes and life priorities, personal wellness can take a backseat, so Governors State University (GovState) is hosting its second Wellness Week this September 16 - 20 where Jaguars can attend various workshops that explore the different habits that are key to living a more happy, healthy, and fulfilling life, even when life gets busy.

“It's all about imagining a future that includes a healthier version of yourself,” said Dr. Frank Czuba, Assistant Professor of Occupational Therapy.

Czuba is hosting one of the first workshops of the week, kicking off the event by touching on the eight dimensions of wellness that drive the whole week: emotional, financial, social, spiritual, occupational, physical, intellectual, and environmental.

Each element contributes to overall satisfaction and quality of life, said Czuba, which then support longevity, healthspan, and happiness.

During his session, Czuba will share strategies for healthier living and how to plan to achieve wellness goals. Participants can anticipate activities that will encourage them to start thinking about applying what they learn to their lifestyle.

Czuba's workshop, “Re-imagining Health for Your Future Self,” is only the first of many sessions that Jaguars and community guests can join.

Across the week, there will be various sessions each day on topics that span the dimensions of wellness from mental health and burnout to eating habits and financial wellness. Staff and faculty will host sessions from noon to 3 p.m., with students hosting the 3 - 5 p.m. sessions.

There will also be a wellness expo on Thursday, September 19 from noon to 3 p.m. in the Hall of Governors where local vendors, service providers, community and student organizations will be available to chat all things health and wellness. Student and faculty organizations are invited to register for a table at the event. Click here to register a table space by Friday, September 13.

Students, faculty, staff, and community guests can attend any of the week's workshops. No sign up or registration is required.
