Welcome new Dean of the College of Business

Sonia Dalmia

Sonia Dalmia is the new dean of Governors State University’s (GovState) College of Business (COB).

Dr. Dalmia comes to GovState from Grand Valley State University where she served as the Associate Dean of Graduate Programs, New Initiatives and Outreach, in the Seidman College of Business. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Iowa and has extensive experience in AACSB accreditation and Higher Learning Commission (HLC) development activities. HLC is one of seven regional accreditors in the United States and as an insitutional accreditor, accredits an institution as a whole.

“I am honored to join the College of Business at Governors State University as its next Dean. The university is well positioned to be a model of academic excellence and innovation under the vision and leadership of President Cheryl Green and Provost Beverly Schneller,”  Dalmia wrote in a letter to the GovState community.

Dr. Dalmia is taking over as dean of COB following Dr. Jun Zhao's retirement this year.

Zhao started her career at GSU in 1999 as an Assistant Professor of Management in the College of Business and Public Administration (CBPA), after completing a Doctor of Business Administration in 1998 at Southern Illinois University. She was appointed to her first leadership role in 2012, as Chair of the Division of Management, Marketing, and Public Administration. She became Dean of the College of Business in 2017, after serving as interim dean in 2016. Zhao is especially proud of attaining initial Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accreditation for the College of Business in 2016 and the re-accreditation in 2022.
