Welcome back from GovState President Cheryl Green
Dear GovState Family,
As we embark on the Spring 2025 semester, I am filled with both excitement and nostalgia in welcoming you back to our vibrant campus. This semester holds special meaning for me, as it will be my final one serving as your president before my retirement at the end of February.
Over my tenure at Governors State University, I have witnessed countless stories of determination, growth, and achievement. Each semester brings new opportunities, and this one is no exception. Our campus is buzzing with enhanced programs, engaging events, and the endless possibilities that come with a fresh start.
To our returning students: Your resilience and dedication continue to inspire us all. You've proven time and again that you can overcome challenges and emerge stronger. To our new students joining us this semester: Welcome to a community that celebrates innovation, diversity, and academic excellence.
As you begin this semester, I encourage you to embrace three principles that have guided me throughout my career:
First, be bold in your aspirations. GovState has always been a place where dreams take flight. Whether you're pursuing your first degree or advancing your career, approach each day with courage and conviction.
Second, engage deeply with your community. Some of life's most valuable lessons happen outside the classroom. Join a student organization, attend campus events, or simply strike up conversations with peers from different backgrounds. These connections will enrich your academic journey immeasurably.
Third, remember that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Our faculty and staff are here to support your success. Take advantage of our academic resources, counseling services, and career development opportunities. Your triumph is our mission.
Looking ahead, I see incredible potential in each of you. The world needs your unique perspectives, your creativity, and your determination. While my time as president may be drawing to a close, my confidence in the GovState community's bright future has never been stronger.
Make this semester count. Challenge yourself. Support one another. And most importantly, believe in your ability to make a difference.
