Welcome back and happy New Year, Jaguars!

A message from GovState President Joyce C. Ester

Dear Jaguar Community,

I wish you and your loved ones an amazing 2026! Many embrace New Year’s traditions, like setting new goals or continuing current ones. Whatever your plans, I hope this year brings you peace, joy, and fun.

Soon, the hallways of Governors State University will be filled with students again, each striving to achieve personal and professional milestones, and persist in their academic journeys.

In 2026, we renew our commitment to providing an accessible and exceptional education. We will continue to celebrate the collective dedication of our students, faculty, and staff—the driving force behind our mission to ensure student persistence and success in a global society.

My return home is about building this region academically and economically. Student success will transform our communities for generations to come. For those who have heard me speak, you know YERI, a word meaning ‘home’ in the Frafra language of Ghana, guides my vision for 2026:

  • You: Support and engage the university and the broader community
  • Economic Vitality: Strengthen the financial health of the university
  • Reputation: Elevate the prominence of the university within the state and beyond
  • Innovation: Encourage progress and out-of-the-box thinking

Best wishes,

Joyce C. Ester, Ph.D.
