Severe Weather Threat Tonight

Severe weather is forecasted for later today. Here are some safety tips for when severe weather is expected:

What Students, Faculty and Staff Should Do During Severe Weather

1. Seek Shelter Immediately

• Move to the lowest level of a building.
• Go to interior hallways, stairwells, or rooms without windows.
• Avoid large open spaces such as gyms, auditoriums, and glass-front buildings.

2. Stay Away from Windows and Exterior Walls

• Flying debris and broken glass are major hazards.
• Sit or crouch against an interior wall and cover your head and neck.

3. Monitor Official Alerts

• Watch for campus emergency alerts, email notifications, or text messages.
• Follow instructions from campus police, residence life staff or university officials.

4. Do Not Leave the Shelter Until the “All Clear."

• Severe weather can change quickly.
• Wait for official confirmation that the threat has passed.

5. If Outdoors

• Enter the nearest substantial building immediately.
• If no building is available, seek the lowest ground, such as a ditch, and cover your head.

6. Residence Hall Guidance

• Follow the directions of Resident Assistants (RAs).
• Move to designated storm shelter areas or interior corridors.
