Rev. Albert Sampson Returns to GSU for Reflections on 50 Years of Education, Black History Month

University Park, IL—The Rev. Dr. Albert “Al” Sampson, one of the first graduates of Governors State University and among the last ministers ordained by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., will mark the university’s the 50-year anniversary with an on-stage interview on Tuesday, February 26 at 7:30 p.m. in Sherman Hall.

The Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III, Senior Pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ, will provide opening remarks, and GSU English Professor Rashidah Muhammad  will lead the discussion.

In "Reflections," Sampson will share highlights from his journey, which includes marching with King and later earning a master’s degree in cultural studies from GSU in 1973. He will bring an inspirational message to students, encouraging them to help others.

“I want our students to understand why they are here at this university. GSU is an international jewel,’’ said Sampson, a retired United Methodist minister who now leads an initiative to draw young African Americans to the field of agriculture.
