Recognition Night: Make someone's life better
College of Health and Human Services honors students
Gathering for a night of honors, Governors State University’s (GovState) College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) held its latest annual Recognition Night, continuing the tradition of giving awards to outstanding students.
“We thrive on serving a diverse and dedicated student body, students who excel in many different ways, and who inspire us in our work,” said Dr. Catherine Balthazar, Dean of CHHS, about the honorees.
Going on for 20 years now, the Recognition Night celebrates the students, as well as the professional field instructors, supervisors, and preceptors who play a role in training the next generation of health and human services professionals, fulfilling the CHHS motto: make someone’s life better.
Eighteen students were honored across the seven departments of CHHS: addictions studies and community health, communication disorders, health administration and health informatics, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and social work.
Dr. Balthazar acknowledged that the honorees’ stories and accomplishments stood out “even among an outstanding group of peers.” When addressing the students, she reminded them to continue the cycle and be a guide to others who come after them.
“Students, when you graduate and get settled in your professions, remember this moment, and the unselfish sharing you received from your mentors in the field,” she said. “One day it will be your turn to pay it forward. I know you will find it rewarding.”
