Professor Kresse honored with Unsung Heroes of Democracy Award
Affectionately known as Professor Fraud at Governors State University (GovState), William Kresse recently received the inaugural Unsung Heroes of Democracy Award from the American Bar Association (ABA) for significantly advancing the cause of protecting American democracy nationwide.
A highly sought subject matter expert, Dr. Kresse is often featured in the media as a fraud and identity theft expert whose Professor Fraud persona is dedicated to educating the public on how scams are perpetuated, as well as how to protect against them.
Kresse also has examined voter fraud, and in a nationwide survey found that more than 67% of voters said they would have greater confidence in U.S. elections if they were audited. As a Commissioner of Elections for Chicago, a CPA and a certified fraud examiner, Dr. Kresse is uniquely qualified to help reverse the trend of historically low voter confidence with certified audits.
Following his study, Kresse founded the nonprofit Institute of Election Auditors to restore voter confidence by training Certified Public Accountants as independent election experts – Certified Election Auditors. Visit InstituteofElectionAuditors.org to learn more.
Kresse said the ABA recognition is humbling.
"I am honored that the world's foremost association of attorneys would recognize me for my work to enhance democracy by applying the disciplines of auditing and fraud examination into the election space,’’ Kresse said. “And I am humbled to be included in the ranks of the other heroes who are likewise dedicated to ensuring that democracy continues to thrive and grow in the United States."
As one of the 22 recipients to receive this award from the ABA’s Task Force for American Democracy, Kresse joins the ranks of individuals and organizations recognized for the work they do to ensure that the country’s elections are secure and the democratic ideals in the U.S. Constitution are upheld.
In a press release, the ABA said, “Kresse has provided remarkable leadership as one of three members of the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners, valuable teaching and research on fraud examination, auditing and accounting, and innovative guidance in founding the Institute of Election Auditors.”
