President Maimon Discusses the Future of Higher Education on “To A Degree Podcast”

Governors State University President Elaine P. Maimon recently discussed critical issues facing higher education during a “To a degree” podcast, sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The cost of education, combined with decreased funding, and dwindling public confidence were among the topics covered during the episode, The Year Ahead In Higher Education.

President Maimon discussed the emerging face of students across the country – first-generation students, students of color, adults, and veterans. “We have to recognize this new majority is the future of the United States,’’ she said. “Every higher education institution has to be thinking about careers—not that first job, which can disappear by time the student is prepared for it—but to make sure students have larger critical thinking capacity for the fast moving 21st century.”
