Prairie Place Evacuation Cleared
On August 20, 2024, Governors State University received an unverified threat of a bomb in its residence hall. Governors State University’s Department of Public Safety, with support from Cook County authorities, immediately evacuated Prairie Place by activating the fire alarm.
Upon conducting a room by room search investigation, it was determined that the threat was not credible. Additional colleges and hotels in the Chicagoland area reportedly received similar threat messages today.
Prairie Place is now reopened for occupancy and campus activities will resume as scheduled.
The safety of Governors State University’s faculty, staff and students is our top priority. We want to remind students that support is available through the Counseling and Wellness Center. Please contact the Center at 708-235-7334 for an appointment. To our faculty and staff, please take advantage of the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for free counseling if needed.
Thank you for your patience,
The Emergency Response Team
