#MyGSUStory

Doctoral Hooding Ceremony

While 2015-16 was a year of fiscal challenges and uncertainty, it was also a year of great academic achievement and success at Governors State University. On Saturday, May 14, GSU will celebrate the graduation of its largest class when 1835 students earn bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees.

To accommodate the large numbers of graduates and all the friends and family who wish to witness the momentous event, the university will host two ceremonies at the Tinley Park Convention Center. Crossing the stage to receive their diplomas will be both traditional and non-traditional students; graduates who attended community colleges before coming to GSU and students who waited 20 years to complete degrees begun years ago. Many will be the first in their family to earn a college degree. Many will walk away with “Dr.” before their names, each having a unique story to tell about the journey that brought them to graduation day. There are those who have overcome profound hardships; or those who traveled to GSU from around the globe to achieve one common goal — success.

To inspire others along their educational path, we've captured a few of those stories for you to view and share. #MYGSUSTORY.
