The Governors State University (GovState) men's soccer team entered the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) for the fifth straight season.

Under the direction of Coach Matt Eggert, the men's soccer team has qualified for the CCAC playoffs all five years of the program. This season alone, the Jaguars won seven straight games with eight total wins in their last nine contests prior to entering the CCAC playoffs.

Recently, the Jaguars offensive has been led by freshman Simon Blaesdahl, the season scoring leader with ten goals, and veteran John Gonzalez with seven markers. Freshman goalie Marcol Salom Chandre has recorded three shutouts this year, including a 2-0 win at Judson on Sept. 30.

On Nov. 4, the Jaguars lost 2-1 to Judson in the CCAC playoffs. Yet the Jaguars are not done yet.

The men's soccer team qualified for the 2023 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Men's Soccer National Championship and will play against Briar Cliff (Iowa) on Nov. 16.

The team was also recently recognized with CCAC postseason awards and the Jaguars boasted the most first-team all-league picks with four students, including John and Simon, who was also recognized as CCAC Freshman of the Year, and Edgar Vargas and Peter Sorich.
