Men’s soccer and cross country set school records
Governors State University’s (GovState) athletes set records this season, most recently men’s soccer and cross country.
Men’s soccer wrapped up their season in the second round of this year’s NAIA National Tournament, the 3rd NAIA National appearance for GovState. The Jaguars’ 16-game unbeaten streak may have come to a close with the loss to William Penn University in November, yet they ended with some notable achievements.
The team claimed their first tournament crown in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) championship with a 2-0 victory over Trinity Christian College. This year marks the sixth time in as many years that the men’s soccer team played in the CCAC playoffs, led by sixth-year Head Soccer Coach Matt Eggert.
Records were also set by two runners from GovState’s cross country team who competed in the NAIA Nationals in Missouri.
Daniel Zavala set a new school record, placing 84th, and Samuel Rocio finished in the top 20 freshman runners, placing in the top 170 of 325 total runners.
