Master of Public Administration orientation promotes career development and networking

(University Park, Ill.) - Promising an opportunity for networking, Governors State University's (GovState) Master of Public Administration (MPA) Orientation, Career and Mentorship Event is set to return August 21. The annual event is open to new and returning MPA students, faculty, mentors and alumni.

WHO: The event is organized by MPA faculty and Pi Alpha Alpha (PAA) for new and returning MPA students, faculty, mentors, and alumni.

WHAT: MPA Orientation, Career and Mentorship Event

WHEN: 7 - 9 p.m. on Thursday, August 21

WHERE: Hall of Governors at Governors State University, 1 University Parkway, University Park, Illinois, 60484

WHY: Held twice a year, the event aims to build a strong academic and professional support network for students and alumni, said Natalia Ermasova, MPA Program Coordinator. 

“This event promotes career development, community engagement, and mentoring connections—core values in public service leadership,” added Ermasova.

Over the course of two hours, attendees can expect an orientation for new and current MPA students, as well as an opportunity to connect with MPA students and alumni, mentors and public sector leaders. Guests can anticipate insight into a variety of career paths from alumni working in the Department of Homeland Security, State Police, Cook County, and non-profit organizations among others. 

There will also be an introduction to the MPA Mentorship Program, which matches students with mentors who work in federal, state, and local governments, non-profits, and at GovState. 

Rounding out the event will be a keynote talk with Dr. James Rink, Ed.D, on leadership and professional growth in public administration.
