Governors State University Convocation 2024 logo

Come celebrate academic excellence while kicking off the school year at Governors State University's (GovState) annual Convocation.

Convocation will mark the start of the 2024-25 academic year at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5 at the Center for Performing Arts. Students, faculty, and staff are cordially invited.

Speakers include President Cheryl Green, Student Senate President, Xavier Thompson, and Faculty Senate President, Stephen Wagner. Recognition and awards will also be presented, including DEI Grants, Excellence and Baysore awards.

DEI Grants, or Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion grants, support efforts by GovState's faculty, staff, and student organizations that strive to help the University become a “model for belonging, inclusivity, and equity in a diverse community.” The Excellence Award recognizes excellence in teaching, performance of primary duties, and creative activity, and the Baysore Award recognizes university employees that embody absolute integrity, total competence, generous dedication, and unfailing civility.

Immediately following the ceremony, there will be an Ice Cream Social in the Hall of Governors. Grab a frozen treat and mingle with other Jaguars!
