Justice Corner Series continues with Prof Jack Norton
Governors State's Social Justice Initiative hosts Nov. 7 event

(University Park, Ill.) - Governors State University's (GovState) Social Justice Initiative (SJI) is back with another session in their Justice Corner Series, a discussion space featuring scholar activists that are advocating for social justice in America and around the world.

WHAT: Justice Corner Series
WHEN: 4 - 6 p.m. on Thursday, November 7, 2024
WHERE: Social Justice Initiative building on Governors State University campus
WHY: The Justice Corner Series is a discussion space that introduces the GovState community to the minds of scholar activists who are champions for social justice in America and throughout the world. This series welcomes all who care about humanity and highlights the exceptional professors, staff, students, alumni, and friends who envision liberation, safety, and justice for all.
Continuing the series, SJI invites professor and author Jack Norton to discuss the book “The Jail is Everywhere,” which Norton co-edited. He will be joined by fellow GovState professors, Drs. Fatima Sattar and Rashidah Muhammad, promising a rich dialogue.
Norton's writing and photography have been published in outlets, like the Guardian, the New York Review of Books, Jacobin, and Verso Books.
Dr. Sattar's teaching and research focuses on immigration, refugee resettlement, welfare, belonging, race, class and gender inequalities, research methods, service-learning, civic engagement and diversity, equity and inclusion.
Dr. Muhammad has taught a variety of graduate and undergraduate courses since August 1995, and co-edited the State University of New York Press (SUNY) series: Urban Voices, Urban Visions.
