Josh Sopiarz: New Faculty Senate President
Josh Sopiarz is Governors State University's (GovState) new Faculty Senate President, making him the 21st Faculty Senate President. He assumes this role for the rest of the 2024-25 academic year, succeeding Stephen Wagner.
Sopiarz is a Librarian and Full Professor at GovState, serving as the library liaison for the social sciences, psychology and counseling, criminal justice, political and justice studies, interdisciplinary studies, and English. He was also an Excellence Award winner in 2019.
As Faculty Senate President, Sopiarz will chair senate and Executive Committee meetings, attend and give reports at Board of Trustees meetings, and inform the faculty of Faculty Senate activities. Sopiarz will also serve as Grand Marshal in academic processions.
