Jeremy Joyce, Creating His Own Career Path

Jeremy Joyce

When Governors State University Alumnus Jeremy Joyce (’15) reflects on his career journey from a corporate climber to entrepreneur, he thinks of people he met on campus.

Joyce, owner of Black People Eats, LLC., a highly successful digital marketing and advertising company, will be the featured Keynote Speaker during College of Business (COB) Week 2023 on April 27, 2023.

The theme “Creating Your Own Career Path" invokes references to food for Joyce, whose passion for cuisine has attracted more than 200,000 Instagram (IG)  followers on his branded account where he posts videos of himself consuming and celebrating food in Black-owned restaurants.

“Being around students, faculty, and staff plus mentors gave me the ingredients that I needed that allowed me to pave the path for my own success,’’ said Joyce. “GSU gave me a blueprint --  framework to start building the path that was suitable for my life,’’ said Joyce, named in 2021 to  “Fortune” magazine’s 40 Under 40 list. While the honor recognizes Joyce’s popularity among social media audiences, it also spotlights his commitment to growing the Black economy. In June 2020, Joyce raised $100,000 to buoy 54 restaurants struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Joyce plans to share lessons he learned at GSU during his talk next month at the annual Business Week presentation.

The event offers engaging professional networking and learning opportunities to COB’s key stakeholders - businesses, students, alumni and the community.

Joyce’s presentation will be followed by the annual COB Alumni Hall of Achievement Ceremony.
