Couples and Family Therapy Expert

Dr. Ileana Ungureanu is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Psychology and Counseling who teaches marriage, couple and family counseling to future therapists at GSU. Also a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Dr. Ungureanu received her Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Syracuse University.

In her previous professional life, she was a family physician. From that ‘life,’ she brings with her an interest in working with issues related to physical illness. Her areas of expertise include:

  • Trauma
  • Loss and grief
  • Chronic illness
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

Dr. Ungureanu serves on the board of directors of the Chicago Center for EFT and routinely participates in their trainings and events. She is also an active presenter at various conferences for regional, national and international family therapy organizations.
