Humans of GSU: Joy Thomas

"Hi, my name is Joy Thomas. I’m a senior here at Governors State University, working on a bachelor’s in psychology. As I reflect during this COVID-19 pandemic, I think about my accomplishments and memories at GSU. Being a commuter student––as well as a young mother to a growing son––it has been a challenge to juggle schoolwork with extracurriculars and my work schedule. I’ve had the pleasure of being a part of the Community Service Council, Program Council, as well as Governors State University’s first Homecoming! I’ve made the Dean’s List for two consecutive semesters and was also nominated for the Change Agent Award during the Black Women Rock Ceremony. I may be a non-traditional student, but I have enjoyed my time at GSU and all the opportunities presented during my undergraduate career."
