Humans of GSU: Gail O'Banner

"I’m an accountant and entrepreneur. As I began my career as a pastry chef, I received unfortunate news regarding my health. This inspired me to travel to France for an internship opportunity in the culinary arts where I immersed myself in the culture and language while learning from the world's best chefs.

When I returned home, I attended Prairie State College to study entrepreneurship and then transferred to Governors State University to study accounting. I plan to own my own bakery and also keep the books and manage the sales. If at any point I can’t work in the culinary arts, I know I can work with an accounting firm and find ways to give back to the community.

GSU faculty and staff are supportive of my two careers and I know that I am not in this alone. While I’m focusing on my accounting degree now, I find time to express my creativity at the dinner table."
