Humans of GSU: Deborah Burk

“After being let go from my longtime job as a creative director, I decided the time was right for me to return to school and finally pursue my bachelor’s degree. Governors State University (GSU) turned out to be the best place for me to attend because of the impressive portfolios produced by faculty and students in the Art program, as well as the beautiful sculpture park that surrounds the campus.

Following the completion of my undergraduate degree in 2015, I enrolled in the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Studio Art program with a focus in Ceramics, where I am currently in my second year. From my bachelor’s program to my graduate courses, my experience at Governors State continues to be remarkable. Professors are able—and willing—to go the extra mile to ensure their students are successful; this type of constructive energy is what makes GSU’s campus lively and exciting. With the knowledge and skills that I am acquiring, I will be able to support the next generation of artists who lack the resources they need to reach their full potential.”
