Humans of GSU: Maddie Janssen

“Soccer is—and always was—an essential component of my life. When I was young, I fell in love with the sport because of the mental fortitude, physical fitness, and unique skill set required to become a proficient player. Because of my passion to continue playing the game, I knew I wanted to apply at a college with a quality soccer program. Governors State University (GSU) became the obvious choice for me.

GSU recently introduced new soccer teams for the fall 2019 semester, and I am excited to be a part of the inaugural season as part of the Women's Soccer team. My teammates are friendly and hardworking, Coach (Ante) Cop is a wonderful mentor, and I anticipate learning more from him as the year progresses.

In addition to my love for soccer, I intend to pursue a career that involves athletics by assisting injured athletes as a physical therapist. Although my life as a college student is just beginning, I understand the opportunities to be academically and athletically successful at GSU are endless.”
