GSU to host electric vehicle event

Reggie Greenwood

U.S. Representative Robin Kelly will join policy makers and industry leaders at Governors State University (GSU) on May 26 to discuss the state's goal to become the “Silicon Valley” of the electric vehicle (EV) industry.

The discussion is part of the College of Business (COB) and Supply Chain Innovation Center and Business Incubator (SCICBI) EV event that will feature panels and speakers that touch on issues ranging from federal and state investment programs in the EV industry, manufacturing EV related products and the challenges associated with those processes, workforce companies and their challenges with training people in high voltage environments, and advanced air mobility.

“We [GSU] want to become a place where people and the industry can meet each other. To combine public, private, and educational institutions in discussions around the growth industry of electric vehicles,” said Reggie Greenwood, SCICBI Director.

“We want GSU to be a significant player in key industries in the state, which the electric vehicle industry is one,” continued Greenwood.

The EV event will feature a host of speakers including:

Lisa Clemmons Stott, Electric Mobility and Innovation Director at Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. Stott markets Illinois’ many advantages for EV manufacturers and directs policy development required to meet industry needs to get the state to 100% clean energy by 2050 in partnership with other state agencies.

Robin Kelly, Congresswoman in 2nd Congressional District. Congresswoman Kelly works towards expanding economic opportunity, community wellness, and public safety across the state, while also advocating for numerous initiatives to generate job growth, reduce health disparities, and end gun violence.

There will also be speakers from Lion Electric, Siemens, SkyWay Electric, Hanson Professional Services, and Illinois Manufacturers’ Association.
