John Niendorf and Tony Bates

Governors State University (GSU) Athletic Director Tony Bates announces the addition of the Men's and Women's Indoor and Outdoor Track programs competing in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Team competition will begin in the 2023-2024 season.

John Niendorf, GSU Head Men's and Women's Cross-Country Coach, has been named Head Coach of the indoor and outdoor track program for the Jaguars.

"Coach John has done such a wonderful job with the Women's and Men's Cross-Country team that it was seamless for me to make him in charge of Men's and Women's Track and Field team as well. He has a passion that makes Student-Athletes want to run for him. I'm excited to watch the new team go!” said Bates.

Niendorf is excited about this new role. “I am so grateful for the athletic department here at GSU for putting their confidence in me to start this track program. There is so much potential here at GSU for track and field and I can't wait to begin building it over the coming years. The plan that the athletic department has brought in to expand athletics is going to serve GSU immensely for years to come.”
