Governors State's Legal Clinic to host July 14 expungement workshop

(University Park, Ill.) – Governors State University’s Legal Clinic is hosting a workshop on criminal record expungement and sealing July 14, 2023 from 11 a.m. to noon.
Lawyers will provide an overview of laws related to expunging and sealing criminal records during the “Expungement and Sealing 101” workshop. This is a free event and light refreshments will be served.
Phyllis West is Director of the Social Justice Initiative, which sponsors the month-old Legal Clinic. She said the workshop is vital to marginalized people who have been impacted by the law.
“We know mass incarceration is a problem in this country that has left millions of people with criminal records, impairing their ability to provide for themselves and to care for their families. Expunging their records will allow them to enjoy a better quality of life through access to educational and job opportunities, even housing.”
