Governors State Welcomes Two New Cabinet Members

Since July, Governors State University has welcomed two leaders to President Cheryl Green's Cabinet  to lead strategic diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and finance and administration, respectively.

In July, Carl Hampton began in the inaugural role of Chief Diversity Officer (CDO).

Hampton is a licensed attorney with more than 20 years of experience in strategic diversity leadership in higher education and government administration on the federal, state and local levels. In his previous role as Senior Diversity & Inclusion Officer with the University of Wisconsin System, he designed, implemented and sustained initiatives that increased historically underrepresented faculty, staff, and students.

At GSU, Hampton is responsible for providing vision, leadership and counsel on strategic diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives to increase a sense of belonging for faculty, staff and students.

Hampton will be the university’s Title IX Coordinator, bringing five years of experience on higher education campuses investigating reports and complaints involving sexual misconduct. Hampton also has five years of experience investigating unlawful discrimination and retaliation to ensure the civil rights of faculty, staff, and students.

Hampton holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Stanford University, a Juris Doctor from the University of Wisconsin Law School, and has completed 50 percent of his Ph.D. coursework in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

On Oct. 11 Dr. Corey Bradford began as Vice President of Administration and Finance, bringing more than 25 years of senior level administrative experience in higher education administration. Almost twenty years of his experience was spent serving a GSU sister institution, Southern Illinois University. Bradford has a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration, a Master’s of Science in Applied Math and Statistics, a bachelor’s degree in mathematics studies and a certificate in Management Development from Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass.

Hampton and Dr. Bradford join Therese King Nohos, Vice President of General Counsel and Ethics Officer and Interim Vice President of Human Resources, and Interim Provost Dr. Colleen Sexton as new members of Dr. Green's Cabinet, appointed since she began her tenure as the university's sixth president on July 1, 2020.
