Students aged 11-16 participating in STEAM Camp activity near Governors State University visual arts gallery

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(University Park, Ill.) – For parents looking to engage both sides of their kids' brains this summer, Governors State University’s (GovState) School of Extended Learning (SXL) is hosting two camps this July, STEAM and Blues camps.

Both camps are open to middle school and high school students, ages 11 to 16, with each camp accepting 55 participants.

STEAM Camp will be two full weeks this year,  July 15 – 19 and July 22 -26. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., campers will be engaged in hands-on science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics fun. There will be activities in drill team, environmental biology, and radio production amongst other areas. The camp costs $300 which includes lunches.

Scholarships are available that will waive the camp fee for students who demonstrate need. Up to 25 children can receive this scholarship, though applications must be submitted by May 31. Applications can be submitted through the form on the STEAM Camp registration page.

Blues Kids Camp will be held July 29 – 31 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., lunch and snacks included. This camp is perfect for children passionate about music; it will guide campers through basic music skills needed to play proficiently in a music community and introduce them to the art of live professional performance. Music literacy, blues cord patterns, and practical application of skills are just a few of the elements of live performance that will be covered.

This camp is free for children who audition. Auditions will be held May 22 and 29 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. To register for an audition, click here.

To learn more about both camps and how to register, visit SXL’s STEAM Camp webpage.
