University Park, IL—The following is a statement issued today by the Board of Trustees for Governors State University regarding university President Dr. Elaine P. Maimon's transition upon the expiration of her contract in June 2020, which she announced at the Sept. 12 board meeting:

“The Governors State University (GSU) Board of Trustees wants to recognize Dr. Maimon’s many years of dedicated service to Governors State University as she moves toward the next chapter in her career. For over a decade, Dr. Maimon shepherded the university through its transformation into a comprehensive university with a four-year undergraduate program and her work to improve services for first-generation, minority and veteran students.

With Dr. Maimon’s impending departure, the Board is announcing the formation of an executive search committee to begin the process of selecting and placing the university’s next president by June 2020 to ensure a seamless transition. The executive search committee will be comprised of Board members and other university stakeholders.

The Board looks forward to enlisting an inclusive and representative search committee that reflects the diverse interests of our strong GSU community. We are confident that search committee will be successful in identifying our next leader to help us fulfill the university’s lofty mission and vision for providing our students an exceptional and accessible education that prepares them for success.”
