Governors State University and Illinois State Police Create Educational Partnership

University Park, IL — Governors State University (GovState) is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Illinois State Police (ISP) designed to advance the education and career opportunities of Illinois State Troopers.
Under this new agreement, GovState will accept Credit for Prior Learning as transfer credits for the successful completion of ISP cadet training, enabling troopers to pursue their Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice while serving. This initiative underscores GovState's commitment to providing flexible and accessible education for those dedicated to public service.
Key Features of the Partnership
- Credit for Prior Learning (CPL): GovState will award credit for ISP cadet training and credentials that meet the learning objectives of its Criminal Justice degree program.
- Baccalaureate Transfer Credit: Troopers who complete ISP cadet training will receive CPL towards the completion of a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice at GovState with an option to add a Minor in Forensic Psychology.
- Graduate Transfer Credit: A separate agreement equates CPL for master's degrees in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, and Counseling/Psychology.
- Customized Practical Training: Programs will feature specialized practical training designed to meet the unique needs of law enforcement professionals.
- Collaborative Project-Based Learning: Students will engage in collaborative, project-based learning experiences to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios.
