Governors State Supports Students with SNAP Benefits During COVID

Governors State University (GSU) now partners with mRelief to provide a screening tool to help students determine if they are eligible for SNAP benefits in as little as 10 minutes.

mRelief is a Chicago-based nonprofit that helps connect students to food resources such as SNAP benefits (also known as food stamps) through an easy-to-use platform on text, web, and voice.

Additionally, to help families during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pritzker administration has extended the deadline to apply for nutrition benefits to August 31, 2020.

Under SNAP, households can receive up to $342 per eligible school-aged student. To learn more about the P-EBT program, visit the Illinois Department of Human Services website.

GSU Students can learn more about mRelief and/or find out if they are eligible to receive SNAP benefits by visiting www.govst.edu/mrelief or one of the following GSU websites:

“We hope this resource is a useful tool in addressing the holistic needs of our students,’’ said Kelly Grab, Director of Community Standards and Student Advocacy.
