Governors State Receives $3.4 million Grant to Remediate Education in the Region

Governors State University is one of six regional institutions that will be participating in the Illinois Tutoring Initiative to provide a combination of in-person and online high-impact tutoring to students in grades 3 through 8 and high school STEM students in school districts of need. The $3.4 million grant will allow the university to recruit, train, and support more than 1,000 teacher education candidates and college students who will provide one to one tutoring services in the university’s region to remediate learning loss in elementary, middle, and high school students due to COVID. The project is coordinated by Illinois State University and includes Governors State University, Northern Illinois University, and Southern Illinois University as partners, in cooperation with a state team comprised of staff from the Governor’s Office, Illinois State Board of Education, Illinois Board of Higher Education, and Illinois Community College Board.
