Governors State partners with Joliet Junior College for clean energy job program
With a $3 million grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), Governors State University’s (GovState) School of Extended Learning (SXL) will support training and education opportunities as part of the Climate and Equitable Jobs ACT (CEJA) grant.
Joliet Junior College (JJC) received the grant to implement the Clean Jobs Workforce Network Program for Will County residents and the surrounding region.
According to SXL Executive Director Craig Schmidt, this is one of many partnerships GovState shares with JJC.
"GovState plays an important role in the CEJA grant by helping people get ready for clean energy jobs. Through training, supporting fairness, and working with others, we are not just helping people find good jobs, we are also helping communities succeed as we move toward a greener future,” he said.
The 12-week bridge program that prepares individuals to enter a clean energy training program will be held on campus at GovState in Spring 2025.
