Graduate Profile: Jinan Zayed
A teacher intern at Amos Alonzo Stagg High School and an aspiring teacher, Jinan Zayed sought out Governors State University (GovState) thanks to glowing reviews from friends.
Working to one day become a high school math teacher, Jinan enrolled in the Mathematics master's program and found herself growing fond of the campus, just like those who told her about the University. With Commencement just around the corner, Jinan feels ready to take on whatever comes next on her journey.
GovState Newsroom: What attracted you to Governors State University?
Jinan: I got to know the existence of Governors State University through my friends; they spoke highly of their experience at GovState and recommended it to me. What really made me fall in love with the university, however, was the beautiful campus, the friendly diverse student body, and the variety of fun activities throughout campus that one can engage in. I felt one with the student body and I am overall grateful to have attended GovState.
GovState Newsroom: What clubs and/or activities were you involved with?
Jinan: I was able to engage in different activities such as the Homecoming celebration (Welcome Back), games, and Pie the Professor. These activities helped me form relationships with people of all cultures and ages.
GovState Newsroom: What are your dreams for your degree?
Jinan: After my graduation from GovState, I plan to start my career as a math teacher in a high school. I hope to grow, gain more experience, make memories, and most importantly, make a difference in my students' lives. I am confident that GovState has prepared me for becoming the best teacher I can be.
GovState Newsroom: What advice would you give to current and/or future GovState students?
Jinan: My advice is to enjoy your time in college and take it slow, there is no need to rush. Go into GovState with an open mind and heart and welcome all the experiences and memories I know you will make. Make the best out of what you have because life is short! Do not take these years for granted! Lastly, surround yourself with people and create an atmosphere of love, acceptance, and ambition. Seek to be in company with people who will help you rise and reach for the stars.
