Former GovState Board of Trustees Chair to serve as keynote at Distinguished Alumni Reception

Former Chair of Governors State University’s (GovState) Board of Trustees (BOT), Angela Sebastian, will serve as keynote speaker at this year’s Distinguished Alumni Reception.
The 5th annual reception will be held Saturday, November 8, where Sebastian (pictured left) will address attendees, sharing her experiences and reflections while celebrating the power of coming together.
An alumna of GovState’s College of Business (COB), Sebastian (’96) served on the University’s BOT since 2019, leading as Chair from 2022-2024. She continues to share her time and expertise with the GovState community.
Kimberly Gonzalez, Associate Director of Alumni Relations, is looking forward to this event and all the connections it will bring.
“This is my favorite time of the year. I have the honor of learning about, meeting with, and helping to elevate the accomplishments of our outstanding alumni and emeriti/retirees,” said Gonzalez. "You can’t imagine the joy I see in those who are being recognized. You have to attend and see it for yourself."
As part of the night’s events, 25 outstanding alumni, including the keynote speaker, will be recognized. There will be six categories that will honor four inductees led by a category leader. Each of the individuals have contributed to their fields, reached milestone accomplishments, and demonstrated commitment to their community.
The Distinguished Alumni category recognizes inductees who have contributed to their field of study or have achieved a record of major distinction in their career. This category recognizes alums who have graduated from 1972-2019, with one category leader per academic college.
The Rising Star category recognizes graduates from within the last five years for superior accomplishments. Rounding out the six categories is the Retiree and Emeritus category that recognizes GovState emeriti/retirees who demonstrate extraordinary commitment to their community and GovState through service and distinction.
