Kelsey Jones saw Governors State University (GovState) as the best choice to blend her studies with her lifestyle as a full-time working mom.

With aspirations to make changes in the healthcare industry, Kelsey knew she could make strides toward that goal with GovState's accredited Health Administration program. As this journey wraps up, Kelsey shares how she found the right place to follow her passion without compromising on the things that matter most to her.

GovState Newsroom: What attracted you to Governors State University?

Kelsey: I was attracted to Governors State University primarily because of its accredited healthcare administration program. Knowing that the program had met rigorous standards for quality education gave me confidence in the curriculum and skills I would develop.

Additionally, the university’s reputation for offering small, personalized classes was appealing to me. I valued the opportunity to engage closely with professors and fellow students, who promoted a supportive learning environment where I could thrive academically.

Governors State’s flexible scheduling options were especially conducive to my lifestyle as a full-time working mom. The ability to balance my studies with my family and professional responsibilities was crucial, and the university’s commitment to accommodating diverse student needs made it an ideal choice for me to pursue my degree at Governors State University.

GovState Newsroom: What song will always remind you of this time in your life?

Kelsey: The song that resonates deeply with this chapter of my life is "5 Leaf Clover" by Luke Combs. Its lyrics beautifully capture the essence of finding fulfillment in both work and family. The song speaks to the joy of pursuing a career that aligns with your passion and returning home to the most precious aspects of life. This past year, as I embarked on the journey of marriage and parenthood, the sentiments echoed in the song mirrored the profound happiness I experienced in building a loving family with my husband and welcoming our precious baby boy into the world.

GovState Newsroom: What are your dreams for your degree?

Kelsey: My aspiration with my healthcare administration degree is to influence substantial change within the healthcare industry by leading initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care. Ultimately, I envision establishing an innovative healthcare organization. While the precise services I would offer remain undecided, the prospect of leading, innovating, and structuring my own domain resonates deeply with me.

GovState Newsroom: What advice would you give to current and/or future GovState students?

Kelsey: My advice to current and future GovState students is to actively engage in networking opportunities, internships, and hands-on experiences within the healthcare field. Take advantage of the resources, clubs, and organizations that are interesting to you. Stay focused, resilient, and committed to your goals, and never underestimate the power of continuous learning and personal growth.
