Faculty Authors and Creators event returns this May

For the first time in six years, Governors State University (GovState) is bringing back its Faculty Authors and Creators event, which has records dating back to 1996.
Revived in part by Faculty Senate President Josh Sopiarz with the help of a steering committee of faculty and staff recommended by the Provost and Dean of the University Library, the event showcases publications, creative works, and awarded external grants of GovState’s faculty. This year’s event will feature faculty work from 2019 to the present, spanning the gap since the last time the event was held.
“I am very excited for the University community to learn about the research and creative activity of our faculty,” said Sopiarz. “The number of submissions we’ve received has actually exceeded even what I had hoped for.”
Guests can expect an array of content displayed in various formats throughout the library, which they can walk through and engage with. There will be brief opening remarks, though the event is more like a festival in its set-up, where people can go from one site to the next as they choose.
Considering faculty interest in participating in this event, Sopiarz is even more excited for what’s to come after. “We have projects in the works that will ensure that this event persists in ways that are accessible and beneficial.”
Anyone in the GovState community is welcome to attend the May 8 event to be held in the University Library from 1 – 3 p.m. No RSVP needed.
