'Education Provides Access': Trustee Lisa Harrell on COE Podcast

In a College of Education podcast, Lisa Harrell, Governors State University Board of Trustees Chair, explains why education is the guiding principle in her life and work, and provides strategies that could help retain educators in a field experiencing extreme shrinkage.
Harrell is Chief People Officer at Cleveland Avenue LLC., a private equity firm with a mission to foster growth for a new generation of entrepreneurs in the food and beverage industry. She also serves in a variety of other leadership roles that center on closing equity gaps and professional development. A native of Chicago’s South Side, Harrell said she was positioned for success as a child.
“I grew up down the street from Chicago State University … and I know, for a fact, that education was my role to do something greater and bigger. My education is not something that can be taken away from me."
The “Teaching and Learning: Theory versus Practice” podcast series, with production assistance from the Center for Community Media (CCM) at GSU, covers topics from homeschooling to bilingual education, each with a different guest speaker drawn from administrators, teachers, authors, alumni, and educator preparation providers every week.
