CPA Receives Top Honors

For Immediate Release

University Park, IL, August 25, 2017 – The Southland community has spoken, and for the fourth consecutive year, the Center for Performing Arts (CPA) at Governors State University is where residents want to see live entertainment. The Daily Southtown and Chicago Tribune published results of a local readers’ poll in the Community Star section, giving the CPA top honors. The Best of Winners Guide lists the Center for Performing Arts as the Best Live Entertainment venue for the east zone.

"What is significant about this for us,” said CPA director Lana Rogachevskaya, “is that this is a write-in vote, so readers have to think of us and write our name in. We have listened to patron feedback and presented a mix of programs and artists that are relevant for our community. This recognition means that our community values what we do.”

What makes GSU’s Center for Performing Arts different? As part of a public state university, the venue understands its role in serving as an accessible cultural resource. That means pricing, programs, and venue accommodations all reflect an inclusive approach.

Volunteer Advisory Council member Leslie Sigale said she supports the Center because “with so much uncertainty and division in the world today, the arts unite people of all backgrounds in a shared cultural experience. The Center is a shining bright spotlight in the midst of the difficulties of life. I say come to the theater, and take a break from it all.”

Here, you are invited to explore your connection to others through art. Whether you are looking to understand the dynamics of a transgender relationship, bridge cultural and generational divides, learn about the complexities of human nature, or to simply celebrate with family and friends at a concert or The Nutcracker, the CPA welcomes you.
