Convocation Celebration 2020

In her first major address to the campus community, Governors State University President Cheryl Green will deliver a virtual State of GSU report during Convocation 2020, kicking off the 2020-21 academic year.

The ceremony, a longstanding tradition, will also include the hallmark presentations of Excellence and Service awards to faculty and staff.

In a new twist to help welcome a new president, a student will interview Dr. Green in a fireside chat-style conversation.

Convocation is a formal launch of the academic year, welcoming new and returning students. In past years, honored guests have included GSU Trustees and alumni. Last year, Gov. J.B. Pritzker addressed students, offering sage advice for success.

Though many traditions and university events have been impacted by the global pandemic, Dr. Green said convocation presents an opportunity to show solidarity, even in a virtual space.

As we move forward to embrace and celebrate the commencement of the fall 2020 semester, know that in spite of the challenges ahead, the GSU family of educators and professionals will strengthen our resolve and commitment to continue our legacy of promoting access, opportunity, and academic excellence to students at every level of matriculation in our educational community,'' she said. "Together, we must do this. Together, we can.''

The virtual Convocation video will be released on Sept. 3.
